Local privilege escalation via unchecked intent filter
Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Improper input validation in Google Android 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows local users to escalate privileges through a hidden Autofill service. AutofillManagerServiceImpl.newServiceInfoLocked accepted a selected service component without verifying that its manifest exposed the mandatory AutofillService intent action, allowing an enabled malicious service to remain absent from Autofill settings. Exploitation requires device-local app installation and user interaction, after which the concealed service gains elevated access through the Autofill framework.
