Local code execution via unquoted termination-helper path
Published May 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2024
Unquoted search path handling in LizardByte Sunshine 0.17.0 through 0.22.2 allows local users to execute code during Windows service shutdown. The service passes the unquoted GetModuleFileName() path as CreateProcessAsUser()'s lpCommandLine, causing Windows to search C:\Program.* before the intended helper. Exploitation requires manually loosened system-drive ACLs, local placement of a matching file, and service termination; the file runs under the termination helper's selected user token.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
