SYSTEM privilege escalation via installation-folder permissions
Published Jul 31, 2024 · Updated Sep 30, 2024
Incorrect permissions in Plug&Track Thermoscan IP 20211103 allow local users to gain NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges. The installer assigns overly permissive access controls to the ThermoscanIP installation folder, exposing a critical resource to modification by an unprivileged account. A low-privileged Windows account with local access is required, and successful exploitation grants full SYSTEM-level control.
