Admin account takeover via unvalidated footer URLs
Published Jun 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Stored XSS in Mintplex Labs AnythingLLM before 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through a crafted footer URL. The footer_data validator parses stored entries and, before the patch, retains javascript: URLs instead of restricting schemes to HTTP or HTTPS. A Manager must save the URL and an administrator must open it in a new tab, after which the script can exfiltrate the administrator's authorization token and enable account takeover.
