CVE-2024-31081

Heap disclosure and crash via swapped reply lengths

Published Apr 4, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

Heap buffer over-read in X.Org X Server before 21.1.12 allows local users to read server heap data through an XInput request. ProcXIPassiveGrabDevice uses byte-swapped reply length values as native lengths, causing the server to copy beyond the allocated reply buffer. An authorized X client with different endianness can receive leaked heap contents until an unmapped page causes the server to crash.
