CVE-2024-31029Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Server crash via null request-payload copy

Published Oct 22, 2024 · Updated Oct 23, 2024

Null-pointer dereference in FreeCoAP 0.7 test_coap_server allows remote attackers to crash the server with a crafted CoAP packet. The server_handle_regular function passes a null request-payload pointer as memcpy's source when a POST request declares no payload. An unauthenticated UDP sender can trigger the undefined operation; the demonstrated consequence is interruption of that test server process.
