Unauthenticated metadata disclosure via unchecked get_item
Published Apr 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in NextGEN Gallery 3.59 and earlier allows remote attackers to read EXIF and other image metadata. The get_item REST handler returns image records without a capability check, exposing metadata for any image uploaded through the plugin. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the documented consequence is read-only disclosure rather than image modification.
