Process crash via stale sample-buffer pointer
Published Apr 2, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Heap use-after-free in Bento4 1.6.0-641-2-g1529b83 allows attackers to crash mp42ts by processing a crafted media file. AP4_LinearReader::Advance destroys a SampleBuffer and then AP4_Sample::GetOffset reads the sample offset through the freed allocation. The application must process an attacker-supplied media file, and the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer abort of the mp42ts process.
