mp42aac crash via dec3 atom over-read

Published Apr 2, 2024 · Updated Sep 4, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in Axiomatic Systems LLC Bento4 1.6.0-641-2-g1529b83 allows attackers to crash mp42aac with a crafted MP4 file. AP4_Dec3Atom::AP4_Dec3Atom reads beyond its heap buffer while parsing an undersized dec3 atom payload. Processing the file with mp42aac is required, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination rather than code execution.
