Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Apr 26, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Stored XSS in MM-email2image 0.2.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through shortcode attributes. The shortcode handler returns user-supplied attributes to a page or post without validation or output escaping, so the stored script runs when the content is viewed. Contributor-level access is required to plant the payload, and a viewer must open the injected page or post; execution is confined to the viewer's browser context.
