CVE-2024-3056Network attack vector

Host denial of service via retained IPC resources

Published Aug 2, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2025

Resource exhaustion in the Linux kernel used by Podman 5.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt the host via a crafted container. The kernel retains shared-memory resources charged to a destroyed cgroup while another container keeps the shared IPC namespace alive, so each restart accumulates unreclaimed memory. Exploitation requires permission to run a memory-limited container sharing IPC with a surviving container; repeated restarts can exhaust host memory and interrupt service.
