SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file deletion
Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024
Link following in G DATA Total Security 25.5.17.335 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM through file deletion. The AntiVirus Scan Server follows an attacker-created symbolic link when deleting a file, causing its privileged service to delete an arbitrary target. Low-privileged code execution on the Windows host is required, and successful exploitation grants SYSTEM-level execution.
