CVE-2024-30266Public exploit

Host runtime crash via mismatched table segment types

Published Apr 4, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Type confusion in Wasmtime 19.0.0 allows local users to crash a host runtime by executing a crafted WebAssembly module. The dropped-element path in Instance models an empty externref segment as a function segment, so table.init reaches a type assertion with incompatible element and table types. Exploitation requires reference-types, which is enabled by default, and interrupts the host process without memory corruption or sandbox escape.
