CVE-2024-30202Public exploit

Code execution via evaluated macro definitions

Published Mar 25, 2024 · Updated Nov 13, 2024

Code injection in GNU Emacs before 29.3 and Org Mode before 9.6.23 allows attackers to run arbitrary Lisp by opening a crafted Org file. In org-macro--set-templates, an eval macro definition is read, macro-expanded, and evaluated unconditionally while Org mode initializes. Opening or previewing attacker-controlled Org content is sufficient; the Lisp runs with the Emacs user's privileges and can read, alter, or delete accessible data.
