Administrator code execution via unchecked ZIP extraction
Published Jun 7, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Remote code execution in Invision Community 4.7.16 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP as the web server user. The addPlugin method in applications/core/modules/admin/editor/toolbar.php extracts an uploaded ZIP into the CKEditor plugins directory and retains its contents whenever plugin.js exists, without rejecting accompanying PHP files. Exploitation requires an Administrator account with toolbar_manage permission and permits arbitrary PHP execution with the web server account's access.
