CVE-2024-30098Network attack vector

Security feature bypass via legacy RSA provider

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 10, 2026

Cryptographic weakness in Windows Cryptographic Services allows remote authenticated users to bypass protections for smart-card certificates. The propagation algorithm assigns RSA certificates to the legacy CSP/CAPI path, which lacks support for modern cryptographic algorithms. Exploitation requires authenticated network access and a high-complexity certificate scenario; Microsoft has not disclosed a more specific resulting operation.
