CVE-2024-30049

SYSTEM privilege escalation via kernel use-after-free

Published May 14, 2024 · Updated May 3, 2025

A use-after-free in the Windows Win32 Kernel Subsystem allows local users with low privileges to execute code with SYSTEM privileges. The CNA maps the flaw to CWE-416, but Microsoft has not disclosed the affected object, function, or operation that reuses freed memory. A low-privileged process must run locally; successful exploitation yields SYSTEM control without user interaction.
