CVE-2024-29982Network attack vector

Remote code execution via malicious server response

Published Apr 9, 2024 · Updated May 3, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in affected Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server builds allows remote attackers to execute code via server data. The client connects to a malicious SQL Server and writes attacker-controlled response data beyond heap-buffer bounds; Microsoft has not disclosed the exact parser or buffer operation. User interaction is required to make the client connect, after which successful exploitation executes code in the client process context.
