Server memory exhaustion via recursive error localization
Published Mar 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 21, 2024
Denial of service in CodeIgniter 4 before 4.4.7 allows remote attackers to exhaust server memory through invalid language data. Language::formatMessage handles a failed MessageFormatter call by invoking lang() to format its own error, recursively repeating the same failure. Network reachability requires Auto Routing or application code that passes attacker-controlled invalid values to lang(); resulting memory exhaustion interrupts the PHP service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
