CVE-2024-29862Network attack vector

Unauthenticated firewall bypass via source-port-only rule

Published Mar 21, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024

Improper access control in ChirpStack MQTT Forwarder before 4.2.1 and Gateway Bridge before 4.0.11 allows remote attackers to bypass firewall rules. The Kerlink init scripts add an inbound iptables rule that trusts a packet source port without requiring an established connection. Unauthenticated network packets using the configured MQTT source port can reach otherwise protected TCP services on the gateway, exposing service data without user interaction.
