CVE-2024-29849Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated account impersonation via attacker-controlled SAML validation

Published May 22, 2024 · Updated Sep 19, 2024

Authentication bypass in Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager before 12.1.2.172 allows remote attackers to log in as any web-interface user. The VMware SSO-token path trusts an attacker-controlled SAML Issuer URL, asks that endpoint to validate the supplied assertion, and authorizes the assertion's chosen identity. No credentials or user interaction are required, but the target must reach an attacker-controlled HTTPS endpoint; success creates a session with the impersonated user's privileges.
