Code execution via uniprint format string injection
Published Jul 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2024
Format string injection in Artifex Ghostscript before 10.03.1 allows attackers to escape the SAFER sandbox via crafted PostScript. The uniprint device's upd_wrtrtl function passes attacker-controlled upYMoveCommand text directly to gs_snprintf as a format string, permitting stack reads and writes. Processing crafted PostScript with uniprint reachable is enough to disable path_control_active and run commands with the Ghostscript process's privileges.
