Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Mar 30, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Kyle Phillips Favorites for WordPress 2.3.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a shortcode. The user_favorites shortcode accepts attacker-controlled attributes such as no_favorites without sufficient sanitization and renders them without output escaping. Contributor-level access is required, and the payload executes only when a visitor opens the injected page, in that visitor's browser context.
