CVE-2024-29196Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Admin file placement via attachment path traversal

Published Mar 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Path traversal in phpMyFAQ 3.2.5 allows remote authenticated users with admin rights to upload files outside the attachment directory. phpmyfaq/admin/configuration.php removes only '../' from records.attachmentsPath, so a backslash traversal such as '..\hacked' survives and redirects later uploads. Administrative configuration access is required, and placement is limited to locations writable by the web-server account, including other web-root directories.
