Stack-based buffer overflow in HDF5 1.14.3 and earlier allows attackers to crash a process or execute code via a malformed HDF5 file. While decoding heap-backed reference data, H5R__decode_heap allows malformed content to overrun stack storage and corrupt the instruction pointer. Exploitation requires an application or HDF5 tool to parse the crafted file, with impact confined to that process and its privileges.
