Arbitrary code execution via unclaimed PyPI dependency
Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 13, 2024
Dependency confusion in Rocket.Chat.Audit through 5ad78e8 allows attackers to execute code through a malicious PyPI package. The requirements file names unversioned filecachetools, while the CVE record states that no such package existed on PyPI, permitting a registrant to supply installer-executed code. Exploitation requires dependency installation from public PyPI after the package name is claimed, and the code runs with the installer's privileges.
