CVE-2024-29131

Application crash via recursive Path flattening

Published Mar 21, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Denial of service in Apache Commons Configuration 2.0 through 2.10.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash an integrating application. The flattenIterator() method treats java.nio.file.Path as a nested Iterable and recursively flattens each derived Path without a termination guard. Reachability requires an application to add an attacker-influenced Path object as a property; the resulting StackOverflowError interrupts that application.
