CVE-2024-29119

Root privilege escalation via SUID binaries

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024

Incorrect privilege assignment in Siemens Spectrum Power 7 before V24Q3 allows local users to gain root privileges through SUID binaries. Several product binaries are owned by root and carry the SUID bit, so execution uses root privileges; Siemens has not identified the binaries or disclosed their unsafe code paths. The attack requires an existing low-privilege local account and grants full control of the affected host.
