CVE-2024-29038Public exploit

Attestation bypass via unchecked quote magic

Published Jun 28, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Improper quote validation in tpm2-tools before 5.7 allows local users to pass attacker-generated attestation data as TPM-generated. The tpm2_checkquote verify function accepts signed TPMS_ATTEST input without requiring its magic field to equal TPM2_GENERATED_VALUE. Exploitation requires a crafted quote signed by the device TPM; the immediate consequence is acceptance of untrusted device state, while downstream access depends on attestation policy.
