Admin credential theft via reflected CORS origin
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
CSRF in Owncast 0.1.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to read the admin password through a cross-origin admin API request. RequireAdminAuth reflects the request Origin into Access-Control-Allow-Origin while permitting credentials, so a hostile site can read /api/admin/serverconfig through the administrator's browser. Exploitation requires a logged-in administrator to visit attacker-controlled content, exposing credentials that enable account takeover.
