CVE-2024-29012Network attack vector

Authenticated HTTP service crash via unbounded sscanf write

Published Jun 20, 2024 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in the SonicWall SonicOS HTTP server 7.1.1-7051 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to crash the service. The HTTP server passes attacker-controlled request data to sscanf without adequately bounding the destination stack buffer, causing an out-of-bounds write. A high-privilege authenticated session and network access to the HTTP management service are required, and successful exploitation interrupts that service.
