CVE-2024-28989

Credential disclosure via predictable AES-GCM key material

Published Feb 11, 2025 · Updated Feb 11, 2025

Cryptographic key weakness in SolarWinds Web Help Desk 12.8.4 and earlier allows local users to decrypt stored application secrets. The AESGCMSymetricCryptoProvider loads a static key and nonce from cryptconfig.properties, while another key is derived from a small, database-backed keyspace; both protect AES-GCM ciphertexts. Access to the application JARs and a database backup is required, after which stored database, LDAP, SMTP, and OAuth secrets can be recovered.
