CVE-2024-28907

Local privilege escalation via improper link resolution

Published Apr 9, 2024 · Updated May 3, 2025

Improper link resolution in Microsoft Windows Server 23H2 Server Core before 10.0.25398.830 allows local users to elevate privileges. Microsoft identifies Brokering File System and CWE-59 but has not published the affected file-handling locus or how it resolves an attacker-controlled link before access. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and high-complexity conditions; success crosses a security boundary and grants elevated privileges on the server.
