CVE-2024-28865Network attack vector

Service interruption via pathological regular-expression backtracking

Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 21, 2024

Regular expression denial of service in django-wiki before 0.10.1 allows remote attackers to exhaust server CPU via crafted article content. Article rendering processes attacker-controlled text with backtracking-prone fenced-code, macro, and keyword-highlighting regular expressions. Anonymous article creation or editing is sufficient when enabled, and successful exploitation consumes CPU and interrupts the hosted wiki service.
