Authenticated command execution via unsafe SpEL evaluation
Published Mar 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 13, 2024
Code injection in OpenMetadata before 1.2.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute operating-system commands through a policy API. CompiledRule.validateExpression passes the URL expression to a StandardEvaluationContext that exposes Java classes such as java.lang.Runtime. Any authenticated non-admin account can reach the unchecked validation route and run commands with the server process privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
