API interruption via catastrophic regex backtracking
Published Apr 30, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in OpenStack Solum yoga-eom allows remote attackers to interrupt the API via a crafted repository URL. The URL parser in solum/api/handlers/common.py applies overlapping greedy groups to repository input, causing catastrophic backtracking on long nonmatching strings. The documented deployment authenticates the API through Keystone, while CISA-ADP assesses the flaw as requiring no privileges or user interaction.
