Remote code execution via traversing assembly path
Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Path traversal in MobileFormatter in Marimer LLC CSLA .NET before 8.0 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted type name. MethodCaller.GetType appends the attacker-controlled assembly name to the application base directory and passes it to LoadFromAssemblyPath without rejecting traversal sequences. Exploitation requires an exposed DataPortal endpoint and a server-accessible attacker-controlled file, which is then loaded into the application process.
