CVE-2024-28584Public exploit

Process crash via null J2K image dereference

Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2024

Null pointer dereference in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash an image-processing process by loading a crafted J2K image. J2KImageToFIBITMAP() dereferences a null pointer while converting the decoded J2K image into a FreeImage bitmap. The user must be able to make a consuming application parse the file; the documented consequence is a process crash, not code execution.
