Process crash via null EXIF pointer comparison
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Null pointer dereference in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash a consuming process via a crafted JPEG image. The jpeg_read_exif_profile_raw() path invokes a memory comparison with a null pointer while FreeImage_Load parses JPEG metadata. Local access to an application that processes the crafted image is required, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination without data disclosure or modification.
