Process crash via EXIF heap-buffer over-read
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Heap buffer over-read in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash image-processing applications via a crafted JPEG file. The jpeg_read_exif_profile function compares undersized EXIF marker data without first validating its length, causing a read beyond the heap buffer. A crafted JPEG must be processed locally by an application linked to the library; the observed consequence is a process crash, not data modification or disclosure.
