Application crash via JPEG tag heap over-read
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Heap-buffer over-read in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash an image-processing application by loading a crafted JPEG file. FreeImage_SetTagValue reads beyond a heap allocation when the Canon maker-note EXIF path supplies a malformed tag value from the image. Exploitation requires local access to submit the file for parsing, and the documented consequence is interruption of the consuming process.
