Application crash via JPEG buffer over-read
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Nov 1, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in FreeImage 3.19.0 [r1909] allows local users to crash an image-processing application via a crafted JPEG file. PluginJPEG.cpp's fill_input_buffer() reads beyond the available input buffer while nested EXIF parsing loads malformed JPEG data, producing an invalid memory access. The attacker must cause a local application linked to the library to process the file; the documented consequence is a crash, not code execution.
