CVE-2024-28569Public exploit

Local code execution via EXR stack overwrite

Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Stack buffer overflow in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to execute arbitrary code by loading a crafted EXR image. Imf_2_2::Xdr::read() performs an out-of-bounds stack write while the EXR scan-line loader copies image data into its frame buffer. A local process linked to the library must parse the file; successful exploitation runs code with that process's privileges.
