Application crash via IPTC heap over-read
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Heap buffer over-read in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash linked applications by processing a crafted TIFF image. The read_iptc_profile() function reads beyond its heap buffer while parsing IPTC metadata from the TIFF input. The malicious file must reach an application that invokes the library; the demonstrated consequence is a crash, with no reported data modification or code execution.
