Process crash via EXR stack-buffer over-read
Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in FreeImage 3.19.0 allows local users to crash an image-processing process by loading a crafted EXR image. During DWA decompression, Imf_2_2::DwaCompressor::Classifier::Classifier reads beyond a stack buffer while constructing a string from malformed EXR data. Exploitation requires the crafted file to be processed locally, and the documented consequence is interruption of the consuming process.
