Service interruption via crafted FileFinder wildcard
Published Apr 25, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2025
Regular expression denial of service in GitLab CE/EE 12.5 through affected 16.x releases allows remote attackers to interrupt service. FileFinder processes a crafted wildcard filter during project file search with an inefficient regular expression, causing excessive computation. No authentication or user interaction is required, and exploitation can make the service unavailable without disclosing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=12.5 <16.9.6
- Affected versionversion=16.10 <16.10.4
