CVE-2024-28246Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-site scripting via mixed-case protocol bypass

Published Mar 25, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Cross-site scripting in KaTeX 0.11.0 through 0.16.9 allows remote authenticated users to create JavaScript links via crafted TeX input. protocolFromUrl returns a URL scheme without lowercasing it, so Settings.isTrusted passes mixed-case values to a case-sensitive trust deny-list. The application must render attacker-controlled TeX with that custom trust callback, and a user must follow the rendered link for script execution in the page context.
