CVE-2024-28219Network attack vector

Memory corruption via unbounded ImageCms mode copies

Published Apr 3, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Buffer overflow in Pillow before 10.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to corrupt process memory via oversized ImageCms mode strings. The cms_transform_new function copies mode_in and mode_out into two fixed-length fields with unbounded strcpy calls. Exploitation requires crafted mode values, low privileges, and active user interaction; published sources establish memory corruption but no deterministic post-corruption outcome.
