Unauthorized role assumption via conditionless trust policy
Published Apr 15, 2024 · Updated Mar 20, 2025
Incorrect IAM role configuration in AWS Amplify CLI before 12.10.1 allows remote attackers to assume project roles without authorization. The remove-authentication path deletes each Cognito trust statement's Condition while leaving Effect set to Allow for sts:AssumeRoleWithWebIdentity. Exposure requires an authorized AWS user to have removed Authentication from an affected project; obtained access is limited to the permissions assigned to the exposed role.
