Improper authentication in all versions of NEC Aterm routers allows remote attackers to execute commands as root via the internet. The affected Telnet service accepts a guessable default ID and password for a specific function; NEC has not disclosed the code-level authentication locus. No prior authentication or user interaction is required, and successful access grants root-level command execution.
